TOTO at Clerkenwell Design week

-a celebration of the work of architecture/interior design photographer Gareth Gardner

As an official partner in the annual Clerkenwell Design Week, Japanese bathroom
manufacturer TOTO is delighted to announce that its Clerkenwell showroom will feature a celebratory exhibition of the work of specialist architecture and design photographer and journalist Gareth Gardner (21-23 May 2013).

‘Magazine Work: Ten Years of Photographs by Gareth Gardner’ features a selection of architecture and interiors related images captured by Gareth for magazines during the last decade.

To complement the exhibition, he will explore the challenges of photographing buildings and interiors through a daily event to which all CDW visitors are invited:

Tuesday, 21 May at 4pm: Seminar, ‘Permission to shoot: Does architecture and design really need commissioned photography?’

A seminar exploring the relationship between photography and architecture/design, including advice on getting the most from commissioned shoots.

Wednesday, 22 May from 2–5pm: Drop-in Architecture & Interiors Photo-Surgery –invitation to all keen photographers to share your questions, concerns and successes!

Thursday, 23 May, 2–5pm: Architecture & Interiors Photography Workshop – bring your camera and be prepared to shoot and share the best of Clerkenwell. (as places are limited please pre-book through kelsey.wells(at)totoeu.com)

A host of high-profile names and projects will feature in the show, including architects John Pawson, Eric Parry, Tony Fretton and Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, not to mention schemes by Jump Studios, Studio Egret West and Sheppard Robson.

After studying civil and structural engineering, Gareth became a journalist and worked as technical editor for Building Design and editor of FX magazine. In 2003, after studying photography at London College of Printing, he began work as a freelance photographer and writer. He is a member of the Association of Photographers and a Fellow of the RSA.

During the last ten years, Gareth’s work has appeared in diverse architectural and design titles including Detail, Frame, Building Design, RIBA Journal, FX, Blueprint, Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms, onoffice and The Architects’ Journal.

He continues to work directly for a wide range of architects, designers and magazines, as well as undertaking his own personal photographic projects.

Pride of place in the exhibition will be an image of one of TOTO’s collaborative projects, at the prestigious May Fair Hotel in London, which was captured for FX magazine in August 2012.

All visitors have the opportunity to win a framed Gareth Gardner print of their choice from the exhibition.
